ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY

Gynecology is the medical specialty that deals with all pathologies related to the female reproductive organs. The gynecologist treats the breasts, vagina, vulva, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and hormonal disorders that may arise during a woman's life.

It is also with the gynecologist that we discuss contraception and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

What is obstetrics?

Obstetrics is the specialty that deals with pregnancy and childbirth.

Our doctors

The team consists of gynaecologists and obstetricians, each with one or more subspecialties. It is a trilingual team, providing consultations every day of the week, both in the morning and afternoon. Team members are on call 24/7, ensuring continuous care at all times.

Our surgical teams work four days a week, offering both day surgery and surgeries that require hospitalization. General practitioners are always welcome to attend surgeries if desired. Our operating theatre is fully equipped for all types of conventional open surgery, as well as gynaecological laparoscopic procedures, pelvic cancer surgeries, sacrocolpopexy for prolapse, and breast surgeries, particularly those for breast cancer. We also specialize in robotic-assisted surgery, using the da Vinci robot for major procedures.
Multidisciplinary meetings are held weekly in oncology, obstetrics, and infertility, where complex cases are reviewed, treatment plans are made, and communication between the involved physicians is optimized.
Midwives assist the obstetricians in monitoring the pregnancy, providing expectant mothers with valuable information to ensure a smooth pregnancy and delivery. We also offer pre- and postnatal physiotherapy, as well as guidance on the benefits of breastfeeding.
A team of specialized psychologists is available to support patients facing challenges after childbirth or a caesarean section, as well as those undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The team also provides emotional support to patients who have undergone surgical treatment for gynaecological or breast cancer.
The Department of Gynaecology is accredited by the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) as an officially recognized training center for residents and assistants.
