Dr. Pascal Castus, guest lecturer at the prestigious MAFAC at the Mayo Clinic (USA)

MAFAC

From July 6 to 9, 2025, Dr. Pascal CASTUS, Head of the Department of Plastic, Esthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at Europe Hospitals, took part as a dissection tutor in the prestigious Mendelson Advanced Facial Anatomy Course (MAFAC), held at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA. This institution, regularly ranked as the best hospital in the world, is renowned for its unwavering commitment to medical excellence: “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.”

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
For the past three years, Dr. Castus has been part of the MAFAC faculty, a world-renowned reference course in facial anatomy applied to aesthetic surgery, founded by Dr. Bryan Mendelson. Dr. Mendelson is an internationally acclaimed Australian plastic surgeon, a pioneer in the study of facial aging and a leading expert in the deep plane facelift technique.

In parallel with this commitment, Dr. Castus served as president of the Royal Belgian Society for Plastic Surgery (RBSPS) from 2023 to 2025. The RBSPS is internationally recognized for the excellence of Belgian plastic surgery and its surgeons. This experience further strengthens his role as an ambassador of Belgian quality and expertise on the international stage.

Dr. Castus had already served as a tutor during two European editions of the course in Amsterdam. His participation at the Mayo Clinic marks his first contribution in the United States as part of this program of excellence.

AN OUTSTANDING PROGRAM
Each year, MAFAC brings together over 40 plastic surgeons from around the world, who receive two to three days of hands-on training in the anatomy lab under the supervision of 21 experienced and internationally recognized surgeons. The program combines dissections, technical demonstrations, practical applications, and scientific lectures.

A highlight of this year’s edition was an additional day devoted entirely to artistic expression, featuring clay head sculpting workshops. This unique initiative illustrates the inseparable link between artistic sensibility and scientific precision, which lies at the very heart of facial plastic surgery.

The exceptional quality of the MAFAC program was recognized by the Mayo Clinic, which named it the Best Course of the Year 2024, across all medical specialties. This prestigious distinction underscores the program’s rigor, innovation, and clinical impact on surgical practice.

A BELGIAN REPRESENTATIVE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL
Through this participation, Dr. Pascal Castus confirms his active role in knowledge sharing and his standing among the world’s leading experts in facial aesthetic surgery.
