Dr Sebastian Spencer appointed Medical Director and Managing Director

The Europe Hospitals Board of Directors has appointed Dr Sebastian Spencer as the new Medical Director and Managing Director, following a strengthened opinion from the Medical Council.

Dr Sebastian Spencer has worked as an emergency physician at the Europe Hospitals since March 2019 and joined the medical management team as Associate Medical Director in May 2022. He also has a strong medical and management background. After completing his specialisation in emergency medicine at UCL in 2007, he practised his speciality at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc as a supervising doctor, at the Centre Médical Héliporté and at Clinique Saint-Jean, where he was head of the emergency department and medical director.  Sebastian Spencer has also been an active member of Médecins Sans Frontières, first as a doctor in the field, then as an elected member of the Board of Directors and, from 2017 to 2021, as Medical Director. He holds a master's degree in international health (University College London 2002), a certificate in management of healthcare institutions (ULB 2015) and an Executive MBA (Vlerick Business School 2017).

Dr Spencer's appointment follows Dr Bernard Vandeleene's decision to step down after three years as Medical Director of the Europe Hospitals. For the coming year, Dr Bernard Vandeleene will continue to put his experience at the service of the institution as Associate Medical Director.
