Haemodialysis

What is it?dia4

The most common procedure to substitute the kidneys with severe kidney disease is haemodialysis or blood dialysis. This procedure ensures the cleansing of the patient's blood with the aid of an artificial kidney and a machine. This treatment must be performed several times per week.

At home or in the hospital?  

Haemodialysis usually occurs in the hospital: the patient visits the hospital three times weekly for a treatment of approximately four hours. Depending on the profile and preference of the patient, there sometimes may be an option to perform this haemodialysis at home. The frequency and duration of the dialysis are then adjusted to the device and the patient's needs.

Where? 

The Europe Hospitals have a haemodialysis centre in 3 locations. The quality of care and safety of the patient are our main concern. These 3 centres have an ultramodern infrastructure with the most advanced dialysis machines. They are the first centres in Belgium to make an Ipad® available to patients during dialysis sessions, to surf the internet, watch a film or listen to music.

  • St-Michel site - Etterbeek  
  • Bella Vita Medical Center - Waterloo: in collaboration with the University Hospitals Saint-Luc, a dialysis centre was recently opened in Waterloo. This centre is located in the commercial heart of Waterloo and boasts an ultramodern infrastructure in a spacious, lovely environment that receives plenty of natural light. There is adequate parking near the entrance.
